Week 13-14

 After continuing research on the air quality in Montgomery County I decided to change my subject for the project. At first I was looking at data in my area and found data on pet owners in Pennsylvania. As I continued to research this I found that it would be difficult to display the pet owners in PA. 

Instead I decided to go further and research pet owners in the US. I found that out of the 84.9 million households that own pets, 63.4 million have dogs and 42.7 million own cats. I wanted to segment these numbers by the type of way people get these pets. Adoption is one of the most important sources from which dogs and cats are obtained. Cats tend to have more who were adopted from an animal shelter than dogs. 19% of dogs and 26% of cats come from the animal shelter.

For my project I decided to cut a dog and cat shaped cookies and each cookie will have a little facial feature to differentiate the two cookies. For the adoption cookies I will be icing a paw print on it as a lot of animal shelters have paw prints in their logo.

    Hi Grace,

    I think your project is coming along nicely and your pictures are well done. I do think that you may have some areas that could be too cramped for the wording specifically. It may help to shrink the text or decrease the sizing of the animal cookies.

    Hi Grace,

    Your execution of your concept is good! I would play with the text placement for the adopted pets as they feel kind of forced. The placement of "each cookie represents 10 million" might be more effective near the top of the graphic rather than the bottom? I can see it working well if you keep it where it is though. If you have to resize the cookies, you might be able to just do that with photoshop and content aware fill the base. Overall nicely done!
